What Medical Experts Are Saying vs. My Reality
Okay. Disclaimer Time.
I am not a doctor, not a nurse, not a medical expert, couldn’t even drive a used ambulance. But I do report on medical issues. This is just my experience. Maybe, I’m one of those rare exceptions to the rule. But I notice the experts’ opinions are dynamic — as they should be. So what if I’m one of the early breakthrough cases and information about my experience would eventually come to light?
A year ago, I kept saying the coronavirus affected my eyes, but I couldn’t find anything or anyone, even the eye docs, to confirm that. A year and three eye surgeries later, the literature has begun to recognize that. I tend to be 20 years early, which I chalk up to genes from my inventor dad. On this, I was a year early.
But please remember, this is strictly my experience. Do with it what you will.
Here Is Where I Veered Off From Experts.
Experts say breakthrough cases (after vaccinations) are relatively rare…but digging deeper, and I find that experts don’t measure nonhospitalized cases. (Duh)
Wear a mask. Agreed, but I am going to wear two now. I had two shots, one mask, and limited exposure. Yet I still caught it. I finally found one expert who said a mask is 20% effective. But who knows?
Breakthrough cases’ symptoms are mild or nonexistent. Au contraire. I was far sicker with my breakthrough delta variant experience. Don’t get it! I feel terribly sad for those unvaccinated people who will suffer through this probably far more intently. And for me, it was grim.
I started having congestion. Thinking: Oh great. I have allergies, too! (I’m allergic to mold, and it affects my breathing.) I took my over-the-counter antihistamine. After a couple of days, I missed my antihistamine, and the congestion got worse, much worse. Along with shortness of breath. It finally dawned on me that this was the coronavirus. But I didn’t have that with the original.
More importantly, antihistamine helped tons (has to do with H1 receptors). I thought Eureka! A breakthrough! But upon further research, I found a study already in progress. You would think they might mention this. After all, it is not exactly bleach!
And Here’s The Good News.
‘If you get through a breakthrough infection relatively unscathed, you are likely to walk away with more robust protection against variants. The infection essentially acts as a booster shot, researchers say, strengthening your immune system’s ability to recognize and fight the virus.’ The New York Times.
Be Safe. Be Well. You and Yours.
