THE EVIDENTIARY HEARING
The purpose of today's hearing was to discover whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has the appearance of impropriety around her relationship with Attorney Nathan Willis.
If even the appearance of unethical behavior exists, the judge can remove her from Donald Trump's trial regarding his criminal interference in Atlanta after the 2020 presidential election. If the judge removes her, that would include her entire office.
Tragically that would mean the case would likely die. A number of legal experts believe the case has become “messy” which is legalese for impropriety. Trump's attorneys did their best to discredit the DA, a typical one of his ploys.
One of the first witnesses was Robin Wright. The woman implied she was a “good” friend. Willis disputed that assertion. The DA let Wright retire, but clearly the former employee was disgruntled.
Then the prosecutor subpoenaed and questioned the man Willis had a relationship with, Nathan Wade. The primary issue was whether their relationship began before the RICO (Racketeering and Influence Corruption Act) expert DA hired him, thus profiting from their relationship. She did not. And did either of the two lie in their depositions?
DA Willis was also subpoenaed. At first she fought it, but after his testimony, she changed her mind. Ms Willis said she wanted to prosecutor’s “clear up the lies.” Later she said emphatically “I am not on trial.”
The DAis a formidable attorney. I hope she beats Trump's attack The trial will be televised, and she would be an historical figure to watch.
