Gloria Christie Reports: 'Get The Hell Out'
GLORIA CHRISTIE REPORT: POLITICAL COMMENTARY FOR INTELLIGENT WOMEN & MEN
‘GET THE HELL OUT’
Something quite awful has happened. My father was a lifelong dedicated Republican. But he surprised me when he said he wrote to Donald Trump and was disappointed the presidential candidate had not written back. I didn’t have the heart to tell him, the campaigning orange man would never respond. Shortly before Dad died, he was disgusted with the previous president, because all he got from Trump was the same letter asking for money. Unfortunately, the Republican Party left Dad long before he could leave it.
1950’s Homemaker
This trouble has been brewing since the Reagan era when a group of wealthy white men dedicated to putting women “in their place” implemented a plan, the Project 2025. These old guys do not like strong women nor intelligent women nor career women nor gay women nor feminists. No. They want women in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant or waiting at the front door waiting for their man and wearing only an apron and high heels, cocktail in hand.
Dad always encouraged me to try any new project I wanted. As soon as I could read, I baked a cake. Remember this was back in the days when we started from scratch. And he deemed it “really good” even though I didn’t realize there was an alternative to whole cloves.
My parents were far ahead of the times. They both believed that Mom was smarter than Dad. That wasn’t true, though. My father was an inventor and musician. However, knowing I was as smart as in any man in the room (or smarter) was invaluable as I made my way through the corporate environment in the 1980s.
This long-term Republican plan included loading the Supreme Court with ultra-conservative justices birthed in the Heritage Foundation who performed a great deception during their hearings. Each said they believed in “stare decisis,” (stand by things decided) in Latin (Cornell Law School). They lied.
First the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade effectively putting physicians in dreaded fear of new state laws which endangered women with legitimate medical needs. Several months after my daughter was born, I hemorrhaged. My doctor ordered a D & C. Under this new law, in some states, I would have had to hover near death to get treatment.
But the Republican junta will not stop there. They are after not only IVF but also birth control. Many of us remember the dreadful moments before “The Pill” was on the market. When the Supreme Court torpedoed Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas added a gratuitous note, divebombing contraception, according to Politico:
…argued in a concurring opinion released on Friday that the Supreme Court “should reconsider” its past rulings codifying rights to contraception access, same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage.
Never mind that one income used to provide for a family. Now it takes at least two and often two and a half for each adult.
This group of very wealthy Republicans seeded the House of Representatives with far, far-right members. And they drove traditional Republican members out. Some of them were Adam Kinzinger of Ohio and Liz Cheney of Wyoming. When ultra-conservative Jim Jordan (R-OH) rose to power, Cheney said, according to CNN:
Jim Jordan (R-OH) knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for January 6 than any other member of the House of Representatives.” She added, “Jim Jordan was involved, was part of the conspiracy in which Donald Trump was engaged as he attempted to overturn the election.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-CA) is another.
It is not fair for us to refer to “Republicans” when we are referring to these uptight, appalling people. No, they have kidnapped the Grand Old Party and brainwashed it so that it has no resemblance to the old Republican Party. This is the MAGA Party which is no more like my dad than orangutans.
Now, I only use “Republican” to refer to the coup-loving politicians. Over half of my closest friends belong to the Republican Party, but they are good, compassionate people. They remind me of Representative John McCain (R-AZ). Patriotic independent thinkers. Remember, McCain’s vote was all that saved Obamacare.
A candidate for McCain’s old seat, Kari Lake (R-AZ) said, CNN reported:
“They tend to be centrist, business-friendly, middle- to upper-middle-class folks who live in the nicer neighborhoods of Phoenix and its close-in suburbs. They want lower taxes, efficient government and absolutely no drama.
“They don’t make up the majority of the party – not by a long shot – but they exceed that single percentage point Lake needed to best Hobbs. They heard Lake’s call to “get the hell out,” and did as they were told.”
MAGA women may be content to return to a time when they supposedly received their self-worth from the highest meringue peaks on lemon pies. But as members of the Republican Party realize their party has been eclipsed, the real Republicans could easily turn to Vice President Kamala Harris, who came from a single-mother home and worked at McDonalds, effectively getting the hell out!
