Hi Again! Well I have been to the secret world of Live-In Rehab day one and have lived to share a few of their surprises. Did you know that they teach you pole dancing?
Okay I lied. They let you slide down the fire person's pole! As much as I wish that were true, alas it is not. But these 8 secrets are very real:
The pole is an assist for sitting down. And I want one!
Rehab is like tots’ Montessori for adults. This form of education for little ones is short task-oriented. Regimented.
You get to do cool stuff like ride a pretend bike and watch TV at the same time.
It can make you feel better.
It can make you sleep better.
There are two kinds of rehab therapy, and they overlap. Occupational Therapy (OT) is job training if your job is getting dressed, putting on deodorant, and getting to the bathroom. Physical Therapy (PT) is like the gym craze but for slow-movers, like me.
The people were gentle with me.
Often rehab is contracted out but housed inside in a rehab. That means 3 profit centers: our supplemental insurance company, the live-in joint, and the rehab contractors. What if Medicare just paid for it?
Wouldn't that make more sense?
Stay safe. Stay well. You and yours!
Gloria
I know you are not one to blindly follow orders, but do what the rehab folks say. It will make a difference! Good wishes my friend!
