What a weird and wonderful thing this body of ours is. Have you ever noticed that one half of our bodies looks as if it almost matches the other half but not quite? One eye higher. One boob lower
Yesterday I stood up. And surprise of all surprises, it didn't hurt! Just like that, the little leg exercises kicked in and supported me --pain free!
And last week I suddenly walked about four steps. Let me tell you, that was one big surprise!
Today my balance started coming back, too!
But the mind is afraid. I'll admit it, I'm reluctant if something is going to hurt. Sure I push through it, but it may come down to:
“One. Two…. Two and a half…two and three quarters” (or) “ Ooooone. Twwwwwoooo. Three-eeeee. Thress-eeeee. Three-eeeee.”
Then there is the fear of falling. Remember when we skipped and walked everywhere on those frosty autumn evenings without a thought of falling?
Now I watch people go up and down steps with almost a voyeuristic feeling. How do they defy gravity? Which muscles move a body up or down with such ease.
I imagine myself riding a bicycle again. Other times I turn on the old inner eye so that I can feel myself running. Just for a block…make that a short block.
So now I will dutifully do those exercises. The marching while seated. Swinging a leg left then right. And heel-toes. Then one day my body just might decide to run once more, for old times’ sake.
Yeah for the steps.
Keep at it girl! Doin great.
Slow and steady.
Hv a super week.
