Good morning! Nice to see you again! Oh, what times we live in these days. But before I get to my column, just a few words.
I have been in a knock-down drag-out with change recently. And that made me think about the change America is facing now. I know that before change, usually comes pain. But this is a lot of pain for our country, don’t you think?
As some of you know, I believe that change is like an invisible bridge over the Grand Canyon. And we’re just standing there with a corroded fire on our heels. A couple of us jump out front and race to the other side — just not looking down. But most of us wait until our heels are burning uncomfortably before we venture out. I’m guilty of that. And then, there are those who would rather die a painful death than even step on the bridge.
I used to be a corporate consultant. And I noticed that good, strong companies would rather die than change. And die they did.
So now we as a nation are faced once again with change. I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea for older people to team up with younger ones. You know, a team of one with the knowledge. And one with the energy and enthusiasm. Just imagine what we could accomplish in the next three months! What do you think?
Oh, and before I forget. Would you mind sharing this newsletter with a friend or two? Thanks! Okay, here we go!

Liz Cheney For President?
Here is an interesting dilemma. Wyoming’s only representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) knew that she could lose her primary seat to an ex-president-blessed woman. Still she went ahead and not only serves on the House’s January 6 Select Committee but vice-chairs it. Cheney has made clear that if it was a matter of serving our Constitution or serving herself to a big helping of House seat, our Democracy would win out. And she continues to make the rest of the Republicans look really small-minded and selfish.
She and Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) have been the only two members of the GOP willing to make that choice. And truth be told as much as we respect and like the Illinois representative, his seat was rubbed out by Democrat’s gerrymandering. I know, we’re guilty of that too — just not as badly.
So Cheney is the only one risking her current seat, and:
She helped structure the January 6 Committee hearings beautifully.
As such, her name will go down in history books.
She supported women throughout the hearings when other Republicans have been vocally anti-abortion.
And we have been able to see her fine mind working leaps and bounds ahead of others in her party.
Cheney earned herself plenty of excellent prime-time face time during the eight hearings. And she made clear in no uncertain terms that our ex should never never, no not ever hold public office again. But it appears as if the ex will run again.
That is great for Democrats, because if he does the cowardly Republicans will just have to take the beating that comes with him wherever he goes. Served cold, it will be twice as bad.
So what is the Republican’s agenda, anyway? Don’t know. Never did. Oh wait, they haven’t had one. What is his? “The election was viciously stolen from me.” Cry me a river.
And should Trump run, it is unlikely that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will, too. You know, he’s the guy salivating in the corner he wants it so badly. But wait! What about Liz Cheney?
Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) both Dinos (Democrats in name only) continue to cut the feet out from under President Joe Biden’s agenda legs. Our president has accomplished so much, but Democrats, in general, do not seem to even care. The GOP walks in lockstep. The Dems have a circular firing ring.
The latest COVID variant is taking hold along with Monkey Pox. And inflation is eating a hole in every American’s pocket — especially when it comes to groceries and gas. With less than 100 days until the midterms, let us hope that we can hold the House and grab two more Senate seats. Otherwise, our democracy is sunk. Put out the Welcome sign for Trump. Except…
And here is where the dilemma comes into play. Except for Liz Cheney. Do you think she could steal the Republican nomination away from Trump? And if so, could she even win the 2024 election?
I have heard before that she might consider a run for president in 2024. That seemed very unlikely given that she was stripped of her GOP leadership role and most likely will not be able to even hold her primary seat. But now I’m not so sure.
If we Dems do not rally and work together, we will not even make it to 2024. But IF we do, there is President Biden. Will the best person for the job run again? Can his by then 82-year-old body handle another campaign and the rigors of that office? Who would even run instead? Mayor Pete is still too young. Just look at that face.
During the Sunday morning shows, Cheney gave CNN’s Jake Tapper a pretty big hint that she might run in 2024. She did not rule it out. Although I am not suggesting it, Americans are ready for a woman president. How many of them long for something new besides two octogenarians? So remember that the woman who voted with Trump 92 percent of the time may just be playing a longer-term gain.
