President Joe Biden condemned what he called the “outrageous behavior” of the Supreme Court in overturning Roe v. Wade on Thursday. And for the first time, he said that he supported ending the filibuster to protect a woman’s right to an abortion and a broader constitutional right to privacy. We have a Supreme Court running wild.
Drunk with power, the hyper-conservative majority has been slinging laws left and right beginning with Roe v. Wade. Apparently, this law is not “settled law.” Fifty years seems pretty settled to most women.

We have been waiting for President Joe Biden to step up and take on this egregious misuse of the law. And finally on Thursday, he came out against the “outrageous behavior” of the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) for what it did to a culture-shifting attack on women’s right to decide what is right for their own bodies. Justice Clarence Thomas forewarned of an end to birth control in his opinion.
President Biden went public on the world stage in Spain and notified the nation that he would stand behind ending the filibuster to protect women’s right to an abortion. Even though the Democrats hold a majority in both the House and the Senate, the latter’s majority is too slim. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kirsten Simena (D-AZ) have voted with the Republicans numerous times, tanking President Biden’s economic and social plans for America.
With a conditional filibuster, the president can count on overruling SCOTUS and codifying Roe v. Wade into law, tossing the need for the 60-votes needed now. The filibuster has long outlived its usefulness. One Republican can call in from Texas and get a law tossed. It used to be that at least they had to stand on the floor and defend their reasoning. But the filibuster has no place in our Constitution and should have no place in Congress.
One of the saddest places in America has been the waiting room of abortion clinics. The weight of their decisions is very serious. And SCOTUS and the GOP gleefully dismiss any concerns about a woman’s health, her circumstances, and her age — especially little girls raped at the ages of 9, 10, 11, and 12, when pregnancy is especially dangerous.
But our president explained that the absence of Roe v. Wade was “destabilizing” for the nation. And now was the moment to move Congress to act, The New York Times reported:
‘We have to codify Roe v. Wade in the law, and the way to do that is to make sure the Congress votes to do that. And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, we provide an exception for this, or an exception to the filibuster for this action.’
In January, the president also asked for a voting rights exception. From Madrid, he called Roe a “critical, critical piece.” But then he went further claiming decades of precedent made it necessary.
President Biden added:
‘I really think that it’s a serious, serious problem that the court has thrust upon the United States, not just in terms of a right to choose, but in terms of right to who you can marry — a whole range of issues relating to privacy.’
Women across the country have been protesting and seeking ways to end this SCOTUS travesty. More will follow. And most will vote straight Democrat in November.
