Special Counsel Jack Smith asked the Supreme Court to hear the Trump immunity case on whether a president can overthrow the USA government on December 14, 2023. It refused.
The court took 14 days to decide whether to take the case which it did today. It could have and has decided in a week. But it gets worse.
SCOTUS could have tried the case in a week, because it has. Yet the court is waiting until April 22 to hear it. Then the court could announce it's finding. But it could delay the case further.
The Supreme Court could make its final decision known immediately. Still its members could easily wait until May 30th or even at the end of this term, June 30th.
Experts are distressed by today's news. After all it is a very simple case. Is a president free to the overthrow our government?
These delays mean that regardless of the outcome there will not be time for Special Counsel Jack Smith to try Trump before early voting begins.
